I got very similar problems with the sound. I use an on-board sound chip and all my problems went away when I got the latest sound driver available.

I have not seen this at all. Do they only apply to player ships or NPCs as well? There are colour options for them, but I've never seen any change. How does it show? In an earlier Dev blog I saw icons for them, is that how it is show?

I like this idea as well. I could be wrong but as all the in-game recorder would have to do its track the position of the objects and then render them back on playback, the system should have much better performance then using FRAPS.
